final fantasy 13 one hit boss kills

final fantasy 4 walkthrough

Introduction

The introduction cut scene introduces you to Cecil, leader of the Red Wings of Baron, who have just completed a raid on the town of Mysidia in order to obtain a crystal. Cecil returns to Baron where he confronts the King, who then sends him and his friend Kain to deliver a package to the town of Mist.

Cecil's Room

When you gain control of Cecil, go out the door immediately south of you to reach a room with visible treasure chests behind a wall. Hit the switch to access the treasure (an Ether, a Tent and 480 Gil). You can explore the castle for more information, but that's it for treasure. To proceed, go up the staircase on the far left side of this room. Continue through until you are outside. Go between the two parts of the castle until you are interrupted by Cid. After he leaves go through the door on the left at the back wall of the castle (the rounded tower). Climb the stairs until you are at the top, and climb into the bed.

Overworld

During the night Rosa will talk with you. When you wake up, you will be automatically joined up with Kain and led outside the castle. After viewing the legend, you will have control of your character. At this point you can explore the town of Baron and pickup any items you may want and gain information from the townspeople.

Find Mist Cave

Southwest of Baron, beyond the desert, is a small octagonal forest. Inside, search the tall grass for a hidden chest with Gysahl Greens inside. You can also talk to a yellow chocobo to get a free ride on the overworld map, or you can walk from here on foot. Head northwest until until you reach a mountain cave. Enter the cave.

Traverse Mist Cave

Traversing this cave is fairly simple as there are not many ways to go. Collect the treasure chests along the way for valuable items, and make your way to the end of the cave.

Mist Dragon

Just as you are about to leave the cave you are interrupted by someone warning you not to go any further. When asked if you would like to continue, choose Yes and you will be entered into a battle with D.Mist. This battle is fairly simple; attacking with Cecil and Jumping with Kain should defeat it fairly quickly. However when the dragon turns into mist (pictured to right), choose the "Parry" command or the dragon will retaliate with a strong attack.

Head to Mist

When you are outside the cave head to the right and enter the Town of Mist. When you enter you are automatically brought into a cut scene in which the package opens and burns the town. When a girl attacks you, you are knocked out and awaken without Kain. You decide to carry the injured girl to aid.

Head to Kaipo

When you regain control of the player, head to the East until you reach the desert. Continue east through the desert until you reach a small lake and a town. Enter the town, and you will automatically be brought to the Inn.

Battle the Soldiers

During the night some soldiers from Baron come and attack you. Fight, them and they are defeated easily. When you defeat them, you speak with Rydia, then go back to sleep. When you awake the next morning leave the Inn.

Find Rosa

Go to the house in the most northeast house in the town. There you will find Rosa. Speak to her and the man in the room to learn that you must find the SandRuby in the cave of the Antlion in order to save her. Once you hear this you can leave the town.

Go To Watery Pass

Once you have left the town head northeast, through the desert until you reach a cave. Enter this cave.

Waterway South

When you enter, you can take the steps to the north or travel the path to the west. The chests to the north contain a potion and Maiden's Kiss. When you travel to west, go as far as possible, then take the bridge north and speak to Tellah. If you spoke with Rosa in Kaipo, then he will join your party; otherwise, he will send you back. Once you cross that bridge, go to the upper left most corner, and go through the door.

An Iron Ring is available in the top-right corner of the map.

B2F

Head north, as far as possible, then there will be a steps on the left to enter the water. The first stairs on the left leads to a Potion. Otherwise, continue south as far as possible, and climb the steps back onto land. From here, the chest to the left contains an Ether, with the bridge leading for a single path that will reach a save point room (where Tellah will cause the party to rest as part of a cutscene, explaining about Anna and the upcoming monster.)

Savepoints allow you to save the game, as well as allowing you to use a Tent or Cottage to restore HP and MP.

After the savepoint room, look for an Ice Rod to the north. Aside from the chest, there is only one path, which will lead to the middle door.

B3F to Waterway North

Continue down, across the islands and bridges to the left (the right branch leads to 580 Gil and a Bomb Fragment), and continue to the next room, B2F. In this room you can go only go north, so follow this path into the next room, Watery Pass-North.

GBA
{{{contents}}}
A secret wall is coloured blue in the second B2F room. It leads to a leather helmet, but later secrets tend to be more valuable. Continue to the north to reach the next area.

To the left are a few chests (Ether, and Antarctic Wind). To continue, find the bridge that leads to the right. Cross this bridge. Before leaving, you can get an Hourglass and Shadow Blade to the south.

When you leave this door you will be outside for a short distance. If you're low on HP or MP, you can use a tent.

Waterfalls

In this cave you will see a large waterfall in front of you. Walk straight into the waterfall and you will be brought down to the next level. When you regain control, climb the stairs to dry land and proceed along the path to the western door. When you reach the branch on this path, you can turn south to obtain better armor for Cecil.

Lake

Follow the path to the water (get the chest on the right side which contains the final piece of armor for Cecil). Go straight north toward the waterfall and walk into the place where red tentacles are moving. At this point you will be forced into battle with Octomamm.

Octomammoth

Octomammoth is weak against Lightning attacks. Use Rydia and Tellah to attack him with Lit, and heal your party whenever necessary. Have Cecil attack with his sword. Octomammoth will slowly lower his tentacles into the water until defeated. When you defeat him, walk towards the waterfall where his tentacles were and you will be outside the cave.

Damcyan

Walk to the left and up and you will see Damcyan castle in front of you. A cut scene will interrupt when the Red Wings attack the castle. Walk into the castle and travel all the way up until you reach the room with Anna laying on the floor. Once this sequence has completed, Edward will join your party and you will be placed outside the castle to head to the Antlion's Cave.

Find Antlion's Cave

Using the hovercraft go to the northeast corner of the desert and travel across the shallow water. Once on land again, immediately to the south is the Antlion's cave. Get off the hovercraft and enter the cave.

Inside the Cave

Go to the bottom of the room, and then go to the right until you see a door. Enter it. In the second room, follow the main path available until you reach the door at the bottom center of the room - other branches lead to side rooms that contain curative items (with the first branch containing a harp). Go through this door, and you will be in the Antlion's lair. Head straight forward up to the Claws in the ground. After the sequence in which Edward attempts to get the SandRuby, you will be entered into battle with the Antlion.

Fight the Antlion

During this battle, any time you attack the Antlion with a weapon, he will counter with a powerful needle attack. For this reason, with Rydia and Edward it is probably better to use magic (and a song for Edward) because of their weak physical attack. You can also have Rydia use the Chocobo summon for a heavy-hitting physical strike that won't illicit the Antlion's counterattack. When you have completed the battle follow the cave back to the entrance.

Return to Kaipo

Take the hovercraft back towards Damcyan and continue to the southwest of the desert. and you can cross the rocks back to the desert where Kaipo is. Get off the hovercraft and enter Kaipo. Go to the house with Rosa and use the SandRuby on her. When she awakens, she will tell you about the newly appointed captain, Golbez, who appears to be manipulating the king to claim the crystals for himself.

The party will rest for the night, but Edward goes out for a walk.

Edward's Fight

After speaking with Rosa, a cut scene will begin, when Edward goes outside the house and is attacked by a monster. You will have to fight him, but it is fairly simple. Just attack with the harp and you will win easily. When this is finished, you regain your party and can prepare to leave town.

Find Mt. Hobs

After leaving Kaipo, get into the Hovercraft and go back to what is left of Damcyan Castle. Now head in the direction of Antlion cave, except rather than going south towards the cave, take the hovercaft further right until you see a path in the mountain. Go into that part of the mountain, and you will be at Mt. Hobs.

Base of Mountain

As soon as you enter a cut scene will begin and Rydia will get over her fear and learn the Fire Spell. There will be 2 doors that you can go into, go into the one on the right (the left side has chests and a save point if you wish).

Summit and MomBomb

Continue up the mountain, and you will reach Yang fighting some monsters. In this battle it is best for your characters to just use physical attacks, using Rosa to heal when necessary. During the battle the MomBomb will grow, then split into 6 individual bombs. You should concentrate on killing one bomb at a time, because if the battle takes too long, the bombs will explode and cause a lot of damage to one member of your party. When you finish the battle Yang will join your party.

Down the Mountain and to Fabul

Go through the door immediately to the north. On the other side, go across the bridge and down to the south and off the mountain. Once back to the outside again, head to the east through the forest and the around the mountains until you reach the castle surrounded by a river. This is Fabul, so head inside.

Defend Fabul

Go Straight ahead into the door, and you will be in a room with an item shop/inn on one side and a weapon/armor shop on the other. You should be sure to buy sufficient healing items and whatever weapons and armor for Cecil, Edward, and Yang, because in the upcoming battle those will be the only characters available. When you are satisfied go straight ahead and you will be in the room with the king. Speak to him and when you are ready, begin the battle.

Incoming Monsters

Once the battle begins you will have a continuous stream of enemies attack, with no chance of rest in between. When fighting these enemies it is probably best to have Edward use the healing items when needed because of his weak attack power. Continue fighting these until you are finally backed into the Crystal Room.

The following waves are known:
•1 General (320 HP) and 2 Fighters (65 HP). The general will give a Charge order which forces the his solders into a synchronized attack. He retreats if they are killed. Worth 200 GP and 273 Exp.
•Imp cap, Weeper and Water hag - a formation you've fought previously in the Watery pass.
•1 General and 2 fighters
•1 Gargoyle
•Imp cap, Weeper and Water hag - a formation you've fought previously in the Watery pass.
•1 General and 2 fighters

Golbez and Kain

Suddenly Kain will enter the room. You will be automatically entered into battle with him. You can attack him, but there is no way to win, and eventually he will defeat you. At this point, a cut scene will begin and Golbez will enter, take the Crystal and Rosa. Rydia will bring the remaining members of your party back to life.

Talk to the King of Fabul

Once the scene is over, you can leave the crystal room. Go back out of the throne room, and back down the stairs directly ahead. Now enter the inn and go towards the innkeeper. He will automatically have you rest in one of the beds. After discussing your plans, you will wake up in the King's room. He will give you a more powerful sword and lend you a ship to travel back to Baron. Leave the kings room and go all the way down the tower. When you emerge you will be in a tower on the right, go down and into the door at the center, beneath the two towers. Now exit the castle.

Shipwrecked

Outside you will see a ship to the northeast. Climb onto the ship and a sequence will begin in which you do not control your characters. Your ship is attacked by a monster, knocking Cecil unconscious. When you awaken you find yourself on land again, next to the town of Mysidia. Go into the town.

Speak with the Elder

Go to the house all the way at the North end of the town. Inside that building speak with the elder. He will discuss the attack Cecil perpetrated on their town earlier, and tell you to go to Mt. Ordeals and become a Paladin. He will have Palom and Porom assist you on your quest. Leave the town.

Locate Mt. Ordeals

From Mysidia go east. Keep heading east until you reach a point where a circle of forest is around a cluster of mountains in the middle. Go up the path in those mountains, and you will be at Mt. Ordeals.

Up the Mountain

At the entrance, Palom will use the Ice spell to remove the Fire blocking the way. A cut scene will reveal Rosa tied up thanks to Kain and Golbez. Continue up the mountain. When you reach the 3rd Station, you find Tellah, who will rejoin your party.

Summit

Continue climbing the mountain until you reach the summit. At this point you should use a tent at the save point and save your game. After saving, continue up the mountain, and cross the bridge on the left. When crossing, you will be entered into a battle.

Milon Pt. 1

Kill off the Ghasts using either fire or cure spells. Physical attacks are ineffective against them. For fighting Milon, Cecil can attack with his sword and let Palom and Tellah use Fire Magic, his weakness. He should be defeated easily using these methods.

Milon Pt. 2

Before continuing across the bridge, you should go back and use a tent and save because another battle awaits you on the way back. For this fight, the strategy remains the same. Have Cecil attack with his sword, and Tellah use his Fire magic. Palom and Porom's twin magic is fairly effective, or you can use Palom's fire magic and Porom to heal.

Fight Yourself

After defeating Milon the second time, walk up to the stone arrangement, and you will be pulled inside. After becoming a Paladin you must fight your old self. In this battle you must not actually fight. Keep selecting cover and off, so that you don't attack. He will eventually quit and you will be able to leave Mt. Ordeals.

Return to Mysidia

Before leaving, Tellah will recall all the spells he had forgotten. Climb down the mountain the same way you came. The easiest way to return to Mysidia is to ride a chocobo. There is a clearing with a circular pattern of trees to the southwest after you leave Mt. Ordeals. Enter these trees and choose one of the yellow chocobos and ride him back to Mysidia.

Enter Serpent Road

Upon Returning to Mysidia speak to the elder again. He will tell you the legend and open the serpent road. It is located in the building at the right immediately outside the elder's building. Enter the serpent road and you will be brought back to Baron.

Fight Yang

Exit the building of the Serpent Road and you will be back in Baron. Go to the Inn in Baron and climb to the top floor. There you will find Yang. Speak to him, and he will send 2 soldiers kill them but make sure not to get mini. Then fight Yang Simply attack a few times, and when he dies he'll join your party having been under mind control. He will also give you a key to a passageway to lead you into Baron Castle.

Enter Old Waterway

On the far left side of the town of Baron, you will find a locked door. Use the Key of Baron on that door to enter the Old Waterway. The key will also open the Weapon/Armor shop if you would like to buy armor before traveling.

Enter Old Waterway

The path through the first level of the underground is pretty straight forward. Make your way around the waterway, collecting any chests desired.

B3F

In this level there are secret holes in many of the walls that will let you pass through. First, head through the wall on the right, and then head through the wall on the right again. When you reach the large area, there are 4 rocks arranged. Go in between them, and pass through that wall. Once through the wall, go north to the door.

Exit

In this room, simply go to the right, up the stairs and through the door. In the next room there will be a door straight ahead, where you can save your game DON'T use a tent. Once you are ready, leave the room with the save point, head to the right, and up the stairs. Once outside you will be at Baron Castle.

Baron Castle

Go to Cecil's room and sleep if low HP then go around the castle and up the stairs to get inside the castle. Go through the door on the right side right inside the castle. Now go up the stairs and down the next stairs until you reach the main room. When you are walking forward you will be approached by Baigan. He will appear to join your party, but in actuality he will engage in a fight.

Baigan

In this battle, after you attack Baigan with the first magic spell, he will use a wall so that you cannot use magic spells on him. However, the Twin magic of Palom and Porom will not cause him to cast Wall, so this is a very effective technique. If you want to use other spells, have Tellah use the Wall spell on someone in your team, then use an attack spell on that member. Once you destroy his body, you can destroy his arms. Also, if you kill his arms, he will simply regenerate them. So you have to attack his body first. Once you destroy the body, his arms will self destruct, so be careful!

Kainazzo

Once you have defeated Baigan, continue straight ahead into the throne room. When you confront the King, he reveals that he is Kainazzo, Fiend of Water. He is weak against Lit, so have Palom and Tellah cast Lit on him. When he starts to "Gather the Water" you must use lit, so that the wave will be drawn away, otherwise he will release a very damaging "BigWave" on your party. When he retreats to his shell, your attacks will be less effective, and he will be able to cure himself.

Cid

When you defeat Kainazzo UNEQUIP Palom & Porom, then go and Cid will storm into the room. He will lead you out, but you fall into a trap. When the walls close in, Palom and Porom turn to stone to save you. At this point you view a cut scene of Kain, Golbez and Rosa. Once that ends, he will take you to the airship. Kain will fly toward you and offer you Rosa in exchange for the Earth Crystal of Toroia. Now you can head over there.

Locate Toroia

To the northwest of Baron is the town of Toroia, where Kain told you the Earth Crystal is located. There is a small piece of land to the right of the castle and above the town where you can land the airship. Land there, and enter the castle.

Speak to Edward

Go straight ahead, until you reach a room with the 8 women. Speak to them and they will tell you that the Dark Elf stole their crystal. Now leave that room, and go through the door on the left side of the next room. Eventually you will find Edward lying in bed. Speak with him and he will give you the TwinHarp, an item you will need in the Dark Elf's cave.

Black Chocobos

Leave the castle and go north. When you see a clearing with a small clump of trees, walk into the middle of it. Find a black chocobo and speak to it. It will allow you to fly across the river to the east, so that you can reach the cave where the Dark Elf is. Enter the cave.

Magnetic Field

When you enter the cave you find out that there is a magnetic field that makes it impossible to use metallic objects. You need to equip either Cloth, Leather, or similar items. Iron and Silver Rings should either be removed or replaced by Ruby Rings. It is also wise to hang on to Cid's Wooden Mallet until this dungeon has been completed, unless you plan to equip him with a bow.

If you failed to find the hidden Ancient Sword, near Baron's secret entrance, Cecil will have to equip a bow or staff (or you can just go back for it!).

Magnes Cave

When you first enter the cave there will be bridge to the east. Once on the bridge take the path to the south. Follow that path until you reach the staircase. Go down to the next level. In the next room go across the bridge, and to the left. Go down that staircase to reach the next level.

Lower Cave
In the next room, there is a save point through the first door found in that room. After saving, continue on across the bridge to the south, and then across the bridge to the west. Go through the opening in the cave wall on that island, and finally through the door. In the next room, go to the next staircase immediately on the left.

B4F

In this final room go to the left, and there are a series of torches leading up to a door. Go through that door and you will reach the Dark Elf. Once in that room, speak to the Dark Elf and he will engage you in battle. You won't be able to fight him at this point and your party will be defeated.

If you visited Edward, the TwinHarp will play to dispel the magnetic field. Your party's health is restored, and you may now re-equip metallic objects before attacking the Dark Elf again.

Dark Elf

When you attack the Dark Elf again, he will not be able to do as much damage as before Edward aided you. Attack it for a little while and it will turn into a dragon. This fight is very simple due to the effectiveness of the spell Weak. Have Tellah cast this spell, and the dragon will be down to only a few HP. One more attack and it will be dead. Now take the Crystal and leave the cave. Get in the Chocobo and it will take you back to the Chocobo forest. Walk back to Toroia Castle.

Kain Takes the Crystal

Return to the room with the 8 Clerics. An omnious darkness appears and Kain's voice will once again instruct you to bring the crystal in exchange for Rosa. The clerics will allow you to keep the crystal, and if you speak with some of them, you get permission to take the treasures in the basement of the castle (located on the right wing). These treasures include Dry ether, Remedy, High potion, Silver apple, Echo herbs, Elixirs, GreatBow, Thunder arrows, Ice arrows, and Fire arrows.

Go outside and board the airship. Kain will fly in with his airship and take you to the Tower of Zot.

Tower of Zot

In the room where you regain control of your party, go to the north-west and follow the corridor to the top. The chest there contains Fire armor. Head to the north-east corner and go through the door you find there.

On the second floor simply go south as far as you can, and when you reach the southern edge, head west. Then go up to find the door. The chest that's visible a bit to the east contains a FlameDog and a Fire Sword.

To return to Toroia, head back to the starting location in the bottom-left corner of the first floor. While you can explore the world using the Black Chocobo, the airship will only be a route between the city and the tower.

B3F

In this room, take the bottom path and go as far to the east as possible. Then you will head north, and then west again, and you will come the next door. In this room, you will head to the south, and then as far east as possible. Now head north and go through the door.

On the fourth floor, you can opt to go directly to the right, or visit the rooms to the north for some items. The left door contains a poison claw and a fire shield. The middle door contains an earth wrench, and the right door contains a wizard robe.

Save Point and Magus Sisters

The first door is a save point. After saving, go toward the next door. You will be interrupted by the Magus Sisters and a boss fight will begin.

The key to defeating this trio is to target the one in the middle sister, Cindy, who can heal and revive the others. Her sisters will protect her by casting Wall on her, but they are all weak enough that it does not really matter. The trick here is to not cast reflectable spells on Cindy. Don't bother casting Wall on your characters, as it will just waste a turn. The sisters are very easy to defeat with normal attacks. Make Tellah cast Berserk on Cecil and Yang and then target one of the other sisters with direct damage spells. Have Cid repeatedly use his hammer to cast Quake and the sisters will be killed in no time.

If you slay the front or back sisters (Sandy or Mindy) first, Cindy may revive them in a single move.

Tellah Fights Golbez

You should return to the save point because you will have to fight in the next room. Unequip any desired items from Tellah, and proceed to the final room. First, a cut scene will begin in which Tellah fights Golbez. Tellah dies because of the battle. Go speak to Kain and he will join you as does Rosa when you save her.

Equip Rosa with the best items, and try to leave the room, but before you can leave, Valvalis will fight you.

Valvalis

When she starts to spin around you must have Kain jump to stop the spinning, weakening both her attack and defenses. Otherwise, just have the rest of your party attack, and have Rosa heal.

Once you defeat her Rosa will warp you back to your room in Baron. Kain will give you the Magma key so that you can reach the underground.

Go Underground

Exit Baron castle and the airship will be outside. Get in and fly directly south of Baron. You will come upon an island with a cluster of mountains and the town of Agart. Go into the town and walk to the well in the middle of the town. When you approach the well, choose the Magma key and it will fall in, opening up the underground. Fly in with the airship.

Dwarf Castle

When you fly into the Underground, a cut scene will begin and you will be attacked by the Red Wings. Once it is over you will be right next to the Dwarf Castle. Unequip Cid, as he will be leaving your party soon. Keep going straight ahead until you reach the throne room. Speak with the king, Cid will leave your party and you will see dolls bouncing in the background. The king will have you check it out.

CalBrena

If you are able to kill all of the little dolls quick enough, the battle will be simple. Otherwise you will have to fight the large CalBrena. Be sure to fight this quickly, because otherwise, she will split apart again and you will start the cycle over again. After defeating the dolls you will be led directly into another battle.

Golbez

Golbez will attack you to the point of near death, but Rydia will come in and save you. Quickly revive one of your party, and have Rydia use a call magic (Titan is pretty effective). Golbez will be defeated fairly quickly if you survive long enough. If Kain is airborne (from Jumping) when Golbez uses Hold Gas, he won't be affected or killed with Rosa and Yang, which lets you fight with three people instead of just Cecil and Rydia. Once you defeat him, the king will open up the underground passage for you to go after the next crystal.

Note: If you cast Warp in the Throne room, you will return to the secret crystal room where you can collect the Dark Crystal. This crystal identical to the crystal found in the Sealed Cave, and allows you to skip past that entire area.

Underground Passage

Leave the throne room, then in the next room head to the staircase on the right. In that room you can buy some upgraded weapons and armor if you would like. After you do that, head to the stair case in the upperleft of the room. In this room go left and in the middle of the room you will see a Gnome in front of a secret room. Speak to him and he will open up the Underground Passage for you. Continue through the passage and you will eventually find yourself outside.

Find Tower of Babil

Once outside, go to the left of the door and head along the coast as far as possible. Now head straight up (ignoring all splits in the road and continuing north) until you can see some tanks. Head to the right side of the tanks. The tanks will attack the tower, allowing you to get through.

Ice Spear and Sword

Inside the tower head straight through into the door ahead of you. In the next room follow the path until you get to the first door you come to. Go inside, the chest contains monsters, who drop a Blizzard Spear when you defeat them. This will be important for fighting Rubicant. Continue on to the door above you to the right. This will be a chest with monsters who drop the Ice sword. Continue on to the only other door in the room.

Next Level

In the next room you will need to go to the right and take the first path north available. Continue all the way around until you reach the next door.

Save Point

In the next room is a save point directly to the left when you enter. Use the opportunity to save your game and continue on past the next 3 doors, across the bridge and into the final door. In the next room, go all the way to the bottom, all the way to the right and all the way up to the next door. When in the next room, there is only one door to enter, so go through it.

Save Point #2

In this room there are two paths on the right. If you take the top path you will get to a save point. The bottom path will take you forward in the tower. Continue on to the middle of the room where you will see Dr. Lugae speaking with Rubicant.

Dr. Lugae

You will have to defeat Dr. Lugae at this point. You will first have to fight his robot. After attacking him for a little while he will be forced to self-destruct, and the real fight will begin. For this fight, Dr. Lugae will use Poison, and a powerful laser weapon, but the fight should not be too tough using Rydia for attack magic, Rosa to heal, and the rest to keep fighting. After defeating him, you will get the Tower key so that you can stop the Super Cannon.

Stop The Cannon

Go backwards, down several levels and you will find the room with doors on the left and right side, and in the middle a bridge leading to a locked door. Use the key on this door, and you can get inside to stop the Cannon. After a few simple battles with guards, Yang will sacrifice himself to stop the cannon. Now you can continue all the way to the entrance of the tower.

Saved By Cid

When you are about to exit the tower, Golbez tries to kill you, but Cid saves you with his airship. Once You are in his ship, he will jump out of the ship, sealing the entrance to the underground, letting you escape. He tells you to return to Baron and speak to his engineers.

Hovercraft Attachment

In order to reach Eblana, your next destination, you must use the hovercraft. Go into Baron Castle, and go down the stair case on the right. When you find yourself on the interior of the castle, speak to the engineers who will adjust the aircraft for you. Using the new airship, locate the hovercraft, which probably is still at Mt. Hobs. Position the airship above it and press the action button to pick it up.

Move Hovercraft

On the map find the Tower of Babil. At the bottom left of this island, you will see some shallow water and Eblana Cave. Drop the Hovercraft on land near the cave, and ride it to the entrance.

Cave Eblana
In the first room of the cave head immediately south, as far as possible and you will reach the next door. The next cave is the hideout of Eblana. Continue to the left, and you will see a staircase toward a door. Go through this door. In the next room head north, and the only door will take you onward through the game.

Find Edge

For this room, head to the fork in the path and take the one to the lower right. In the next room follow the path down, to the right, then up again and into the next cave. In this cave, the first door you see is a save point. Continue to the left of that door and you will come upon Edge. He will lose a battle with Rubicant only to join your team.

Re-enter the Tower of Babil

This cave leads to the edge of the Tower of Babil. Edge will jump over the side, letting you in. In the first room of the tower. Follow the horseshoe pattern of the room, and enter the next door you come to. The next room also takes a large horseshoe pattern, so follow this around as well. Enter the first door you come to in the next room.

Through the Tower

In this room go immediately to the right, and it will loop around to another door.

Save Point

Upon entering this room go immediately to the right and you will see 2 doors. The first is a save point. The second will take you further, so enter this door. In the next room, just go through the door, then you will reach final room, where you will find the King and Queen of Eblana.

King and Queen of Eblana

The King and Queen are being controlled by Rubicant. Just fight these guys for a little while, and a cut scene will take over, and they will die. After defeating them Rubicant will appear. He will give you a chance to equip yourself properly (Ice Weapons and Fire Armor). Before attacking he will heal you completely.

Rubicant

Rubicant can be difficult. He will rotate through spells (Fire 2, Fire 3, and Glare) Use ice weapons, Rydia's Ice or Shiva, and Edge's Flood for most effective attacks. However, when he hides behind his cloak Ice attacks will actually heal him, so wait for him to drop the cloak to attack.

Crystal Room

After defeating him a messenger from Eblana will come in and speak with you. After leaving head toward the door that Rubicant blocked, and you will be in the Crystal Room. When you try to take the crystal, you will fall into a trap. Continue along the path of the tower through 2 levels.

The Underground

When you reach a room with a fork in it, take the path on the left. Through that door you will find an airship. After the cutscene, use it to reach the Gnome City. Speak with the King and he will tell you that the final crystal is in the sealed cave. Luca will give you the key.

Cid

Go to the basement of the castle, and you will find Cid through the door. He will fix your airship so that it can fly over the lava. Now you can reach the Sealed Cave.

Tomra

Tomra is in the south central part of the underworld, and has new equipment. Skip Diamond Armor and Shields, but buy Diamond Gauntlets and/or Helmets. Diamond gear protects against lightning. If Cecil or Kain have at least one piece each of Fire, Ice and Diamond gear, they'll be protected against all three elements. Because Fire and Ice gear are both only a shield and body armor, the Diamond gear has to be the helmet or gauntlets. It's the best setup for them until they get their best armor in the final dungeon.

The Tiaras also protect against lightning, and grant a big boost to Rydia's black magic. A nice piece for Rosa, and a must have for Rydia (but you should already have found one Tiara in Mist).

Optional Sidequest

This would be a good point to attempt the Cave of Summoned Monsters. In order to do this easily, either Rosa should have learned the Wall spell or you should have the Mage Masher knife, but neither is actually required.

Locate Sealed Cave

To the south in the underground is a cave which is completely surrounded, and can only be entered from above. This is the sealed cave, so land the airship and enter the cave.

Note: if you already obtained the Dark Crystal by having Rydia cast Warp in the Dwarven Castle throne room, you do not have to complete the Sealed Cave. This only works in the SNES version.

It would be prudent to carry at least 15+ Phoenix Down/Life items into this dungeon, just in case.

Enter the Cave

When you enter the cave, approach the door. Use the Luca key on it and it will be unsealed. In the next room follow the path all the way around the room, until you reach the second door in the room. Like almost every door in the cave, this door is a trap, and you will have to fight it in order to pass through.

Trap Door

TrapDoors attack using a combination Search, then Disrupt. They will first use Search, then about 2 rounds later they will use Disrupt which will automatically kill that member of your party. If you have not defeated the TrapDoor past a certain point, it will change into another monster, which you will have to defeat also in order to pass.

Many Doors

In the next room you can ignore all the doors, and continue into the next room. In this room, go to the right, then up and you will reach a long stretch with many trap doors. None of them are necessary to continue, but some contain chests, and one has a save point. Continue past them to the door at the bottom left of the room to continue through the cave.

Keep Moving

The next two rooms are small, continue through them, ignoring the trap door in the second room. In the large room you next reach, cross the rope in the center of the room, then go to the left and down the staircase.

Save Point

Use the savepoint in the next room, then continue on. The next room is a large circle. Ignore the ropes and go all the way around the edge and down the stairs in the middle. In this room you will see a bridge with one final trap door. Enter it and defeat it.

EvilWall

Retrieve the crystal, and attempt to leave the cave. When you try to cross the bridge, you will be interrupted by another trap. This one is a Wall that will move toward you as you attack, killing you if it gets too close. You must defeat it as quickly as possible. Cast Berserk on Cecil and Edge (and maybe Kain), and have Rydia cast Virus/Bio.

Kain

Now you can leave the cave (Exit and Warp will not work so you have to walk). Just as you are about to exit the cave, Kain will steal the crystal and leave your party. After this occurs, leave the cave and fly back to the Gnome City.

Visit Cid

First, go visit the king, and he will tell you that you must return to Mysidia to get the ship necessary to fly to the moon. Cid will enter the room then attach a drill to your airship. Finally, get in the airship and go to the circle in the northeast part of the underground, place your airship above it, then press the button to land, and you will drill your way out of the underground.

Optional Sidequest

This would be a good point to attempt the Sylph Cave.

Fly to Mysidia

Once in the overworld fly immediately to your right and you will reach Mysidia. Enter the town, and the elder will greet you and raise the Big Whale for you. This ship will allow you to travel to the moon. Get inside and touch the crystal in the middle and it will take you to the moon.

Locate the Cave

There is a plateau that has a ramp downward and will let you enter the set of caves. It is to the upper right of the strange blue crystal towers. Land somewhere on the plateau, and enter the cave below.

Lunar Underground

Pass through the first cave, heading through the first door you reach. Outside, you will head all the way to the right and enter the next cave. In this cave, go straight ahead. When you exit you will head left, and enter the cave beneath the large blue towers.

FuSoYa

When you enter the home of the Lunarians, on the left will be a tile that will restore HP, and to the right is a tile that will restore MP. Go straight ahead, and a sequence will begin which will result in FuSoYa joining your party.

Return to Earth

Exit the lair, and return through the caves to the Big Whale. Enter the ship and touch the crystal to return to Earth.

Enter the Giant

As you arrive back at Earth, you will land automatically and all of your friends will arrive to stop the giant in its tracks. This will allow you to get inside the giant. When you regain control of your party, you are inside of the giant.

Inside the Giant

First head straight ahead and into the staircase, then through the next staircase. In the next large room, follow the path around, until you reach a point where the path forks. Go up and to the left and you will find the next staircase.

Stomach

In the stomach, there are three paths ahead of you. Go to the middle path (head to the right, then the first path you reach). Head around the room until you reach the next staircase.

Four Elements

In the passage, simply follow the path, use the save point you come to, then go on ahead to the next staircase. Inside the lung, walk forward, and you will be drawn into battle with the 4 elements once again. Use the same weaknesses from earlier in the game (Milon-fire, Cainazzo-Lit, Rubicant-Ice).

CPU

Once you have defeated the 4 elementals again, you can continue on to the next staircase. In that room is the CPU. There is a very specific way you must fight this enemy. First you must kill the small ball on the bottom. This is a defender who will otherwise heal the large CPU. Then you must NOT kill the other small orb, or the large CPU will attack you with a devastating spell. Once the defender and the large CPU is dead, you can kill the last one.

Because the CPU uses Wall and because you can't kill the Attacker orb, Rydia's best spell for this fight is the Sylph summon.

Kain

After defeating the CPU, Golbez will appear in time for FuSoYa to bring him back to normal. He will reveal that Zerus is responsible for controlling him. Finally Kain will get you out of the giant and rejoin your party. The ship will fly back to the moon.

Optional Sidequest

This would be a good point to attempt attaining both call spells Odin and Bahamut.

Passage in Lunar Hideout

Go through the Lunar Path once again, following it the as before, continuing until you reach the Lunar Lair. This time, go behind the platform where FuSoYa was, to the door in the back. In this crystal room, there is a tile in the center. Stand on the tile and you will be transported to the Lunar Subterranean.

Murasame

When you reach the underground, go immediately to the left and through a hidden path in the wall. On the otherside is a staircase. Go down these stairs. Continue forward on the path, and you will go down 3 sets of staircases, eventually reaching the podium where the Murasame sword is resting. You will have to fight the Pale Dim to get this sword. He has basic attacks, using the Slow spell occasionally. He counters summon magic with earthquakes, so be sure to cast Float to protect the party. When you defeat the enemy, you can equip Edge with this powerful sword. Return to the entrance of the underground.

Passage

Head down from the entrance, and go through the door. In the next room, follow the hidden path in the wall to the right, collecting the chests along the way if you like. Continue along the path, and you will eventually reach another door, continue through this door. In the next room, head down from where you enter, and take the first door you reach.

Staircases

This next room is large, with several levels. From the entrance, head to the right taking the first staircase. On the next level, go all the way to the right and down the staircase. Finally, go to the left and into the first door you reach. In this room, head all the way to the left, and into the only door you see. Finally, go toward the southeast of this room, to go on to the next section.

Continuing to the Core

In the next room, go down the staircase, and into the next room, where you will head to the right and through the invisible paths in the wall, finally going through the door you see at the end of the paths. In the next room you will reach the next door you must pass through immediately to your left. Now head to the staircase immediately to your right when you exit the room.

Crystal Sword

In the next room you reach, you will find two bridges. Go down the one on the left, and cross an invisible bridge all the way on the left. Once across, go down the staircase at the end of another invisible passage at the top left of the island you are on. In the next room, head to the right, until you reach a staircase. Continue on the subsequent stairs all the way until you reach a room with a save point. Save in this room, and prepare to fight a boss.

Wyvern

Wyvern begins the battle with a meganuke attack that often kills some weaker characters, and then casts Wall on itself. Heal up before attacking in earnest. Never use summon spells on Wyvern, as he counters with more meganuke attacks. Instead, have Rydia cast Quake, since that bypasses Wyvern's Wall. As long as you don't trigger additional meganuke attacks, Wyvern is simple.

Once you defeat this boss, you can have Cecil equip the Crystal sword. Go backwards to the room with the invisible bridge, and the two divergent bridges.

Towards the Core

This time take the bridge on the right, and through the door around the path. Go through the door on the right in the next room. Finally you will come upon a save point in the first door you reach. Use this point because it is very important to be healed for the remainder of the game.

White Lance

Leaving the save point, go into the next room on the right, and you will find the White Lance. Plague is difficult to defeat, as it places a 10 second instant death countdown on all characters. You have to defeat it before your time runs out. Since Plague is a flying enemy, Edge's boomerang weapons, Rosa's arrows, and Kain's spears all do extra damage.

Alternatively, you can exploit the AI. Any time Plague notices a character without the countdown timer, Plague recasts the countdown, but this resets everybody's countdown to 10. Therefore, you can kill and revive a fragile character like Rydia over and over to force Plague to repeatedly refresh everybody's countdown timer.

For winning, you get Kain's most powerful Spear for Kain.

Ribbon

The next room to your right contains two chests. Before you are able to open them, an enemy will attack you. These two dragons are not too difficult to defeat. If you use magic on them, they will remedy themselves, but Rydia's Bahamut is pretty effective, as it is far stronger than the remedy. You can't use magic on them because they cast Wall. Otherwise, simply use the strongest attacks possible. Finally, once you have defeated these enemies you are ready to move on to the final stage of the game in the Lunar Core.

Descend to the Core

Leave the cave that contained the Ribbon chests and head to the right. Go to the right and all the way around the room until you reach the staircase. Go down the stairs and into the opening on the next level. You will finally be inside the Moon's Core. Inside the core, the enemies will be the toughest you have encountered in random battle. Make your way through the room until you reach the staircase, but don't go down it yet, head as far south as possible, and you will find the final weapon to be obtained from the Subterranean.

Masamune

Ogopogo is similar to Leviathan, except Ogopogo will use the Big Wave attacks more frequently than Leviathan. There is no real strategy for destroying him, except attacking with the strongest attacks possible, and having Rosa use cure spells every round. Once you have obtained the sword, have Edge equip it.

Down the Passage

Go back to the staircase you just passed and descend further. In the next room, weave your way around, going to the right, down 2 staircases, then to the left and down a staircase, then to the right again until you get to the next set of stairs. In the next two rooms, follow the same basic strategy, weaving your way through the room, getting any chests you like along the way. Eventually you will enter a room where you will find FuSoYa and Golbez fighting Zemus.

Zemus

As you enter, Golbez and FuSoYa engage Zemus in battle. It appears that they have defeated him, but he transforms and defeats both of them handily. Suddenly, your friends from earlier appear, and begin to heal you, allowing you to recover to fight Zemus yourself. Now you will begin the final boss.

Zeromus

The first thing you must do is have Cecil use the Crystal (available from the Item menu) on Zemus. At this point he will transform once more into Zeromus, and you will be ready to attack. Zeromus has several different attacks, including the Big Bang which will attack all of your party at once, as well as the Blk Hole which will remove all status conditions from your party. He will also use some strong Black magic spells on you. The key to this battle is to have Rosa constantly use Cure4 on your entire party. This will ensure that at least most of your party will survive each round. Use an elixir on her when she needs more magic. If you have enough experience, you should be able to defeat Zeromus using this strategy.

End

At this point you will see all the people from the game once again as they come to Cecil and Rosa's Wedding. You finished the game. Congratulations!

About Wellsprings
Wellsprings are very important, and pretty useful otherwise. Often, you can find them in towns or other such places, and rarely, in dungeons. They either heal HP and MP or revive party members.
At the outset of the game, you see Luneth fall down a hole and into a cave. You get a chance to name him, but for the purposes of this walkthrough we will use his default name, Luneth, to refer to him. After this, Luneth rounds a corner and ends up in a battle. Fight 3 Goblins with physical attacks until they fall. After you defeat them, you gain control of Luneth. There’s a path in front of you; travel forward and you’ll encounter two chests. Claim the treasures (Leather Shield and Potion) inside.
Continuing ahead, Luneth sees a suspicious rock. Zoom in on it (using the camera symbol in the upper left corner, or the shoulder buttons) to discover that it shines. Interact with the rock (by tapping it or pressing the A button) to uncover a path forward! Go through it to find a chest (Longsword). If you haven’t already, equip the Shield and Sword on Luneth, then take the stairs.
Luneth finds himself at a crossroads. The left path contains a chest (Antarctic Wind). The right path also contains a chest (Potion). After getting these items, go forward again and loot the chest directly in front of you (Potion). The path splits off again at this point. The right path contains another chest (Antarctic Wind) and a “Wellspring”.
For the time being, interact with it to heal yourself. Then, take the other path, which leads to a door…
Luneth arrives in a tiled room. Move forward and you’re attacked!
BOSS: Land Turtle[edit]
The Land Turtle is an important creature in Japanese folklore. Known as Genbu, it represents the Earth element, the North direction and the winter season, and it is associated with the black color.
Level: 4 HP: 111 Weakness: None Gil: 500 EXP: 20
NES version
Wohoo! First boss battle! Anyway, this battle is fairly straightforward. While you can use the two Antarctic Winds you found in this dungeon and then whack away at the boss until it’s defeated, there is an easier way that lets you hold on to one of them. Equip yourself with a Longsword and a Dagger (replacing the shield) for much more powerful attacks, and use only one Antarctic Wind on the Turtle. Follow that up with your standard attacks. If your health drops to around 10, then use a potion on yourself.
After the boss battle, Luneth talks with the Wind Crystal, then you find yourself outside on the world map. Save your game, and then you can continue your journey…
Return to Altar Cave[edit]
About Saving
It is advised that you save a LOT in this game! You can only save on the world map; there are no save points in dungeons, so you may end up losing your progress if you perish while trying to defeat the boss!
Instead of proceeding south, go back into Altar Cave and go right through a hidden wall to find 2 chests (Leather Cap and Bronze Bracers). Go downstairs and head forward from the entrance to find a room full of chests (2x Longswords, Bronze Knuckles, Bronze Bracers, Spell Sleep), as well as the hole you fell through on your first time through. Now exit the Cave and go to Ur.
NES version differences[edit]
The main differences are that in the NES version you start already with a team of four Warrior of Light, and five jobs are unlocked as soon as you speak with the Wind Crystal. Therefore, this “NES differences” section will be quite long just here and in the next page.
Checklist Altar Cave:
before Land Turtle
after Land Turtle
•Shields: •2 Leather shields
•Items: •3 Potions
•2 Antarctic winds (cast Ice2)
•Weapons: •2 Long swords
•Nunchuk
•Items: •Copper Ring
•Spells: •Sleep
Suggested jobs
Change classes as soon as you can, and start earning experience and abilities.
Suggested classes:
•Monk: you’ll find soon two free weapons that only he can use;
•Red Mage: he can use both black and white magic, and soon a free weapon only he can use will be found;
•White Mage: you’ll find soon two identical white spells for free, so you’ll need a second white magic user;
•Warrior: this is the only job left that can use the long swords you found for free.
Don’t worry about the Black Mage: they’ll come in handy later. Before leaving the altar room, talk to the Wind Crystal again and it will completely restore Health and Magic Points.
Before the Dungeon[edit]
At this part of the game, you start gaining the rest of your party members. In the NES version, you started the game with the full party already. In the DS remake, each character is introduced by a cutscene.
Town of Ur[edit]
In the table below, “NES” is the cost in the Japanese Famicom (NES) version, “DS” the cost in the remake. Items in brackets can be found for free, therefore there is no need to purchase them here. Items in green are recommended for purhcase, instead.

Phoenix Down
Unlike most FF games, Phoenix Down cannot be bought in Final Fantasy III. It must be found in chests or stolen from enemies. To get an extra Phoenix Down, talk to the old man in blue near the elders’ house in Ur and give him a potion when prompted. This works in the remakes only, while in the original you would be given Echo Herbs.
After arriving on the world map, walk south until you reach a village. This is Ur, your hometown. If you talk to the first guy you see, an old man in blue, he’ll tell you that the elders are looking for you. Go into the building directly behind him, and speak with Elder Topapa.
After this, take a small detour and grab some useful stuff. Go north until you see an old man in orange. Run past him and find a house hidden way back in the forest; there are monsters on the way. Check near the water for a Potion. The old man inside will give you a monologue about hidden switches and examining stuff. Zoom in and interact with any objects that sparkle.
Two of the pots to the left hold Antidotes, and the rightmost candle is actually a switch. Interact with it and a door will open to the right of it. If you take the stairs, you’ll see five treasure chests: loot them (Spell Cure, Phoenix Down, Dagger, Eye Drops and Longsword).
Returning to the center of town, take a path leading northeast to find your next party member, Arc. Rename Arc, if you wish, and then watch him run out of town. Check the Water near where Arc was for a Potion.
It’s almost time to take leave of Ur, but first, if you wish, take a path leading east from the inn to a well. This well contains three potions.
Now, exit Ur and travel south until you come to the next town…
Town of Kazus[edit]
The Airship
This is the first of many times that you obtain an Airship. This vehicle allows you to move around the world map without encountering enemies. You have it for now, but don’t get used to flying around like this. Hint hint.
When you enter Kazus, you’ll see Arc up ahead. Talk to him, or at least try to, in order to progress with the plot. After that, start exploring Kazus. The town is basically deserted, no one’s outside, and everyone inside the buildings seem to have become outlines of people.
On top of that, no one in the shops will sell you anything. To get to the bottom of this, head to the inn and talk to the outline standing by the left-most counter. The outline, who is actually Cid, will give you his airship to help you lift the curse that seems to have caused everyone to become outlines.
Go in Smith’s House northeast and check the Vase (Potion). Check the bookshelf in the Inn (Potion). Now go around the wood to find a pond and three hidden treasures (Mythril Helm, Staff and Zeus’s Wrath).
Mine
Don’t enter the Mine, as the monsters there are too strong for you right now.
Head west to a patch of sand west of Kazus to find the Airship. Walk inside and prepare to meet your next party member, Refia (her default name). After talking with her your objective becomes clear: Head to Castle Sasune to retrive the Mythril Ring! To reach the castle, fly northwest (roughly). It appears as a fortress-like structure. Park your airship and go inside.
Note: If you try to go into Kazus with Refia, she will stay outside. She won’t go back into town until later in the game.
Castle Sasune[edit]
When you arrive, run up to the gate. Talk to the man standing there, he’s Ingus, your fourth party member. After talking to you, he’ll decide to let you go talk to the king, and you can now enter the castle.
After entering, go straight forward until you enter the room where the king and the man you saw before are. Walk up to them to learn about the curse and how to lift it. Unfortunately, the ring you’re looking for seems to have disappeared along with King Sasune’s daughter, Sara. You’re instructed to go to the cave in the north and look for Sara with the king’s man, Ingus, who now joins your party. Now your last party member has joined you.
You can now head off to the Sealed Cave. However, it might be a good idea to stock up on healing items, and possibly teach your characters some spells or get them armor before you set off. Once you’re ready to enter the cave, get on board your airship and head north to the cave across from the lake. Make sure you save!
Let it be noted that Castle Sasune is stuffed with treasure. There are three parts to the castle: the main part, and the west and east towers. In the main castle, some of the side walls appear different from the others. You can walk through these to get into other rooms. Go downstairs twice from the King’s Chamber and go through the left wall for a Phoenix Down.
Then go through the right wall and upstairs. Gou around to find two chests (Leather Shield and Spell Blizzard), but that is not all. To the left of the two chests is another hidden wall you can walk through. Go north, east to find one chest (Bronze Knuckles). Go downstairs twice and get the treasure from two chests (2000 gil).
Go to the East Tower where is no enemies. On third floor there are two chests (20 Holy Arrows and 20 Wooden Arrows) and on the last floor are three chests (Potion, Bow and 20 Wooden Arrows)
Before venturing in the West Tower, go to Ur and buy some stuff for your Party. Train a while in the West Tower until you’re Level 5 or higher, since there is a boss on the last floor. On floor 3 there are two chests (20 Holy Arrows and 20 Wooden Arrows) and on the last floor is one chest (Wightslayer), which is guarded by a Griffon monster, so be on your guard.
Sub-BOSS: Griffon[edit]
In the original NES version, this enemy was not a boss: in fact, it didn’t have the boss music nor the boss animation.
Level: 6 HP: 230 Weakness: Ice (DS) Gil: 40 EXP: 130
This boss is fairly easy as well. Whack away at it with your swords, and use Potions (or Cure if you have it) if your party members are wounded. Also, it’s a good idea to get a Blizzard spell to use not only on this boss but on the boss of the next dungeon. Go to the Sealed Cave next…
The Sealed Cave[edit]
Warning
The monsters in the Sealed Cave are fairly powerful, more so than the monsters on the world map, but they are undead, so they are harmed by Cure spells and they’re weak against Holy element (Wightslayer sword).
If you find yourself getting whacked around by them, return to the surface and get your characters to about level 6 or so before going back. Also, nab some of the treasure in Castle Sasune to equip your characters with.
When you enter the Sealed Cave, you find yourself in a large chamber. Walk straight ahead, and follow the curving path until you arrive at a two-way split. Keep traveling forward to find a chest (Potion), then return to the split and take the other path to travel deeper into the dungeon. Follow this path until you reach a path that leads off into a small chamber with a chest (Spell Cure). After this, continue to follow the path to a set of stairs.
In the next cave go down-left for a chest (500 gil). Then go to the skull at the top-right corner. Zoom in and you see that it shines. Activate it and the wall will upon up. Continue along the path and enter the next room, where Princess Sara will join the party. Continue into the next room. With Y button you can speak with Princess Sara if you wish to do so.
Go along the path until you get to crossroads and take the path leading down for a chest (Antarctic Wind) and then take the path going up. After you get to the large chamber, go down and get the chest (Eye Drops) then go up slightly and take the path going left. The path will turn down into a large chamber with another path leading to the right. It is advisable to heal your party members as the Djinn is right around the corner.
BOSS: Djinn[edit]
In pre-Islamic Arab culture, the djinns were elemental spirits associated with the air/wind, while the fire-elemental spirits (like this Djinn-Boss) were the efreets/ifrits. The other two elementals were marids for the water and ghouls for the darkness.
Level: 7 HP: 600 Weakness: Ice, Water Gil: 1400 EXP: 200
NES version
The quickest way to defeat this boss is to use two antarctic winds as they do 350 damage. However, there is alternative which uses one less wind: Cast Blizzard, Use Antarctic Wind, WightSlayer attack, and someone heal. After you defeat the djinn, you will then teleported to Altar Cave, then the credits will roll.
After the boss: Wind Crystal jobs[edit]
Once the credits finish, a Moogle will give a short explanation about the job-change you now can do. Walk past the crystal onto the pink portal.
You could stay Freelancer or change the jobs of your party any way you like. For more information on the six first jobs check the Job List. For example, you could choose:
•White Mage: he/she can equip a Cure spell and any other White sell;
•Red Mage: he/she can equip the Wightslayer sword, the 2nd Cure spell and some Black magic;
•Monk: he/she can equip the knuckles you found for free;
•Warrior: he/she can equip any sword and shield you found so far.
You will then be transported out of the Altar cave. Once on the open fields, it is advisable to save. Go to Castle Sasune where Princess Sara awaits you. Princess Sara will throw the Mythril Ring in the Holy Spring under the Castle to lift the Djinn Curse. After the Curse is lifted, the King will thank you with a Folding Canoe.
Mognet
With the Victory over Djinn the Moogles will start appearing in villages. Check Mognet for more info. You could start the Side quest Save the Children with sending 4 Mails to Topapa, but don’t go to Ur unless you’re level 13 or better.
NES differences[edit]
In the NES version, the first five jobs are unlocked far earlier than here.
The biggest difference is that the man in Ur exchanges your potions with Echo Herbs instead of Phoenix Downs. An Echo Herb just cures the “Mute” status, therefore it’s far less useful.
The bow and the arrows can be used by some Wind Crystal jobs, but since the arrows are consumables, you may choose moneywise to save them for the Ranger, that is the job specialized in using this type of weapon. On the other hand, enemies weak against the Holy element are found in three dungeons only throughout the game.

You have to use the Airship to bring him home, so conquer the River with the Folding Canoe you received from the King to get the Airship back.
Walk to the House above the Inn (Takka’s house) and enter. Cid will ask Takka to fit the Airship with a Mythril Ram to bust the Boulders which block the passage to Canaan. Exit the village and enter the airship. You will then meet Refia there again to join your Party. During talking with Refia it turn out, the others were also Orphans!
Mythril Mines[edit]
With Refia back in Party enter the mines near Takka’s house. Go in the big room and check the Pillar northwest to open a secret passage. Enter it and go along the way to two chests (2 Mythril Swords). Exit the mine and fly now to the rock and the rock and the airship will be destroyed altogether. Walk Southeast to the village and enter it.

Cid will then leave the party and tell you to meet King Argus in order to make a new Airship. You can continue along the quest, though you may want to buy some armor and weapons since you’re in Canaan. Go to the house connected to the Inn and search the firewood (Mallet). Go left of it through a hidden passage below the lamp to the pot (Golden Needle). Talk to the girl on the bed and Luneth and Refia will then decide to find Desch for her.
In the northeast part of the city is a pond with stairs of which you can enter on water. Follow the river until you find a chest (Elixer). Walk to the armory, then walk north, to the house above. Enter and talk to Cid, then talk to Mrs. Cid. Use the Elixer on Mrs. Cid. In return Cid will tell you a secret for your help. Activate the lamp, then walk down the passageway.
Grab the 8 chests (Phoenix Down, Spell Blind, Golden Needle, 20x Iron Arrows, Great Bow, 2x Gnomish Breads and Potion). Walk down into the water and onto the small island in the southeast corner. Walk right, into the passageway and loot the chests (4000 Gil and 2x Phoenix Downs) Exit Cid’s house and walk out of the village and walk to the mountain.
Dragons Peak[edit]
Walk up the path and once at the crossroads, take the lower one for a chest (Phoenix Down) and continue up the path. When you come to another crossroads, take the one to the right for a chest (Spell Aero) then return to the crossroad and take the path left. Grab the chest (Gold Needle) and then go up. Bahamut will show up and throw you in a nest. Talk there with Desch and Bahamut will show up again and fight you.
BOSS: Bahamut[edit]
NES version
In pre-islamic Arab culture, the Bahamut is a huge, powerful and benevolent creature that supports the World on its back. Later, Christian influence turned it into a “pagan devil”, Behemoth (other devils: Astaroth was the Babylonian goddess of love Ishtar; Beelzebub was the Phoenician god Baal-Zebub, i.e. “Baal the Almighty”).
You are far too weak to defeat him, so just run away. After doing do, Desch will give you the Spell Mini and join the party. You will end up in a new area.

Extra Mini
If you talk with the Gnom, as long you have no Mini spell in your inventory, then you will always receive one! So you equip the Mini spell you got from Desch, then there will be none in your inventory. This way you can receive up to 5 Mini spells (4 equipped and one in inventory) at no cost at all!
Now that you’re out of the nest, it is a good idea to save. Also, equip one of your characters with the Mini spell and walk to the forest to the southwest. Besides a Gnom there are 3 different Springs there. One to revives any deads, one to restore HP/MP and one to cure all status ailments. There, you will receive another Mini spell from a Gnom. Use the Mini spell on all characters. It’s probably a good idea to change your physical-based jobs to magic-based jobs, since as Gnomes your physical attacks won’t work well. Walk south to enter Tozus.

He want you to defeat the sea dragon and in return he will give you his ship “Enterprise”. Go north to exit the cave to appear on another part of the world map with a ship nearby. Walk up the coast until you reach a temple.
Nepto Temple[edit]
Enter the temple and walk up to the dragon and press A button. The party will notice a gem missing and the mouth of the statue can be entered. Go inside and walk right until you get to the two holes. Walk into the left hole for two chests (Shell Helm and Shell Armor). Enter the right hole and walk right. Grab the chest (Serpent Sword) and continue right into the hole. NES version (jobs: Black mage, Red mage, Black mage, White mage)
If you have a party of mages and high level, then just cast level 3 spells on him and you will be done in short time. If not, then continue with lvl 2 spells. After your victory you will receive Nepto Eye. so go back to the temple entrance and press A button again to put the Nepto Eye back in Statue.
The Nepto Dragon will thank you for your help and reward you with Fang of Water. Go back to Vikings Cove and talk with viking boss again to receive the ship Enterprise. Now you can go anywhere in the Inner Sea.
Before the dungeon[edit]
Inner Sea[edit]
Complete Bestiary
If you want to complete Bestiary List, then hunt all five sea monsters, because you can travel the seas only for a while.
Anyway, you can still fight them in the fresh waters near the Sealed Cave and near the Living Forest.
You can for example go back to Castle Sasune and start the Fix Sara’s Pendant Quest or finishing the Save the Children Quest if your level are 13 or higher. There are several places that you can visit and you should start with Tokkul. Go west the coast along to find Tokkul.
Tokkul[edit]
Enter it and go northwest to a tree (Lamia Scale). South of the tree is a crate (Great Bow) and southeast of it is another crate (Bacchus’s Cider). Go east and seach the trees (Ice Staff).
Enter the northmost house and go in fireplace for two chests and a vase (Serpent Sword, Kenpo Gi and Sonic Knuckles).
Leave the village and sail north along the coast, until you get to a castle.
Castle Argus[edit]
Enter it and you’ll find out it’s empty. What has happened here? Go inside and upstairs.
Go right from the round table and go downstairs (which is hidden). You will come across two chests (Antartic Wind and Bomb Fragment). Go between the chests through the wall to the east to a hidden chest (Artic Wind). Go back up and exit the room to the south to find two springs (Revive and Restore).
There is another secret passage, but we’ll get there later. Actually, in that passage there’s nothing that is can be used now, and you would risk to fill completely your menu.
Since you couldn’t meet the King of Argus, go back to Tokkul and follw the other thread, that leads you to the Village of the Ancients.

Exit the village and go east until yo’ve come across a forest with a circle of grass. That is the Chocobo Woods. Enter it and you can get a Chocobo and run around without getting into random encounter. Run once with a Chocobo around the continent to claim a prize in the village.
Buy some Maiden’s Kiss, since you’ll need them soon, and maybe a Light Staff, with which a White Mage can cast Thunder. Go back to Ship and sail northwest of Nepto Temple until you’ve across a Castle.
Gulgan Gulch[edit]
Go on and go downstairs and talk with the man in the middle. He will give you the spell Toad which is needed in Tower of Owen, where you’ll go next. He also tell that Desch’s destiny lies in the tower. Go south through a secret passage to three chests (Fire rod, Ice rod and Mage Robe).
Tower of Owen[edit]
Tower of Owen
The tower is north of Castle Argus. On the first floor go around to a small room and turn your party into toads and enter the room. One floor higher turn your party back and continue west to floor 3. On half way you will hear a eerie voice who welcomes you here. On floor 3 go west of a chest (Echo Herbs) to next floor. Nothing here, so Go to floor 5. On floor you will hear a laughter from the eerie voice again. check the chests (Spark Dagger) and continue to next floor.
The eerie voice tell you on floor 6 that you’ll never find the way to the place. Check the north nische to make a wall disappear. Check the chests (Echo Herbs) west of the stairs and go upstairs twice. Go right to find 2 chests (Echo Herbs and Bomb Fragment), then go left to next floor.
Go west, north, then east to find a chest (Sonic Knuckles). Go west and west again to the last floor before the boss. On this floor are 3 chests (Salamand Sword, Flame Mail and Zeus’s Wrath).
BOSS: Medusa[edit]
Level 17 HP: 3,000 Weakness: – Gil: 2,600 Exp: 1,680
NES version
A team of mages would be best against Medusa, but other authors suggest the opposite. Start casting the highest level spells, then continue with lower levels after you used up the most powerful ones. Let your physical attackers simply keep attacking (it’s pretty much the only thing they can do).

Dwarven Hollows[edit]
Complete Bestiary
If you want to complete Bestiary List, then hunt all five sea monsters, because you can travel the seas only for a while.
Anyway, you can still fight them in the fresh waters near the Sealed Cave and near the Living Forest.
Obeying the last words of Desh, you travel to the island of the Dwarves looking for clues about the Fire Crystal. Go sailing west from the whirlpool strait to a isle with two caves and enter the southern one. There, you discover that Guzco, a rogue, prevents the access to the Molten Cave where the crystal is located. He fled to Underground Lake, but Dwarves can’t swim, so only humans like you can follow him.
You also learn about a remote village named Gysahl, so it can be a good idea to visit it before the next dungeon.

In the southeastern part of the village there are three treasures (two Magic Keys and a Gysahl Green). Enter the house east of the spell shop and search two pots (two Gysahl Greens). Go north to a shop which sell Magic Keys. Go through a secret passage right behind the counter with a chest (Shuriken).
In the Inn is a old man hidden away righ from the door through a secret passage. Talk with him to view the Bestiary and Achievements (in the NES version, it asked you to write a feedback mail to Square Soft). Once you’re done with your shopping you can go back to the Dwarven Hollows.
Across the sea, just in front of Gysahl to the west, you can re-visit the Healing Copse.
Chocobo Forest[edit]
There’s a chocobo forest on the mainland south of the Dwarven Hollows: use a Gysahl Green (“carrot” in the NES) there to summon the Fat Chocobo and give it custody of all your surplus items.
Subterranean Lake[edit]
Go downstairs west of the Shrine to a small lake. You need to turn yourself in Toads again to advance (what Refia hates).
Turn yourself back and continue over two bridges east past a chest (Gold Needle) to next level. Go over the bridge past another chest (Zeus’s Wrath) over a second bridge. Before the third bridge are two chests (Gold Needle and Zeus’s Wrath) and there is one more chest (Gold Needle) after the bridge before going up to next level. On the way to the boss are two chests (6000 Gil).
BOSS: Gutsco[edit]
Level 17 HP: 3500 Weakness: – Gil: 3500 Exp: 2304
NES version
Start with the same party as before against Medusa. Gutsco should be easier than Medusa. Start casting the highest level spells, then continue with lower levels after you used up the most powerful ones.
After the Battle you will receive a Horn of Ice. Go back in Dwarven Hollows and talk with the Dwarf chief. He will dissolve the barrier to the shrine, where you can put back the horn. Do so and the shadow that followed you here will reveal himself as Gutsco and he will steal both horns and escape.
Follow him to the Molten Cave north of Dwarven Hollows.
Molten Cave[edit]
Molten cave
Since the monsters and boss are of fire element, it would be good to equip Ice armor set, that can only be purchased in Darven Hollows.
Upon entering you’ll notice the Fire Barrier that was here before are now gone due to Gutsco’s invasion. Follow the path west from the first crossing to a chest (Antarctic Wind). Come back to the crossing and walk in the lava, although it will hurt you every second. Go east first for another chest (Antarctic Wind), then go west to next etage.
Go in the lava and south all the way for another chest (Freezing Blade). Go back and go west and go north and south for two more chests (Hi-Potion and Phoenix Down) before going west again to next floor.
Continue following the path past a chest (Impact Claws) to a room with another chest (Phoenix Down) and a switch. Check the rock to reveal a secret passage. Go in and go upstairs in the Crystals Room.
BOSS: Salamander[edit]
Level 19 HP: 5700 Weakness: Ice, Water Gil: 3700 Exp: 2744
NES version
Salamander is weak against Ice, therefore:
•have the Warrior use the Freezing Blade;
•have the Black Mage and Red Mage cast Blizzard, Blizzara and Blizzaga;
•have the White Mage use the Ice Staff from the item menu to cast Blizzard;
•use any Arctic Wind and Antarctic Wind you have.
After your victory over Gutsco you will get Horns of Ice back, but not only that: you’ll receive also the Fire Crystal which nets you four new jobs:
•Knight
•Ranger
•Geomancer (DS) / Thief (NES)
•Scholar
In the NES version, the Fire Crystal grants the Thief job instead of the Geomancer. The NES Geomancer job is obtained from the Water crystal instead.
Dwarven Hollows treasure room[edit]
After defeating Salamander-Guzco, go back to the Dwarven Hollows and return them the Ice Horns. The dwarves will thank you by granting access to their treasure room. In there, you’ll find full equipment for the Scholar and full armor for the Knight (you already have strong swords he can equip), plus many other items. Check the list below.
Weapons:
•Book of Fire (for the Scholar)
•Book of Ice (for the Scholar)
•Book of Light (for the Scholar)
•Killer Bow (for the Ranger)
Armor parts:

Castle Argus treasure room[edit]
Check the fourth candle from left for a secret passage to the east. You will then come in a room with three chests behind a wall which can walked through. Go upstairs and you find six more chests. Go upstairs again and go left until the door. Unlock it with the thief in your party (if you don’t have one then change someone to a thief and place him at the head of the party).
Check the dresser to give way to three chests. Exit the room and go right to another door. Unlock it and you are in a room with six chests. The contents of all chests are listed below.
Go back to the room with four candles. Now you’re done here so exit the castle and go southwest to the Living Forest.
Weapons:
•Killer Bow (for the Ranger)
•20 Light Arrows (for the Ranger)
•20 Fire Arrows (for the Ranger)
•20 Ice Arrows (for the Ranger)
•20 Medusa Arrows (for the Ranger)
•Book of Fire (for the Scholar)
•Book of Ice (for the Scholar)
•Book of Light (for the Scholar)
Armor parts:
•Scholar Robe (for the Scholar)
Items:
•3000 Gil (three chests in secret passage)
•4700 Gil (six chests in upper floor of secret passage)
Fire crystal jobs[edit]
The Wind Crystal jobs correspond to five of the jobs in Final Fantasy 1, while the Fire Crystal introduces four new ones:
1.The new Knight is inherently different from the one in FF1 because he cannot use White Magic, but he can cover allies instead.
2.The new Thief has the added abilities of Steal and Lockpick.
3.The Ranger is a brand new job.
4.The Scholar is a brand new job.
You now have full equipment for your party:
•Knight: full armor set, three swords with different elements.
•Scholar: full armor set, six books with three different elements.
•Ranger: bow and arrows with four different elements. He can wear armor previously found.
•Thief: he can wear weapons and armor previously found.
•Geomancer (DS): no equipment for him yet.
In this team you don’t have a White Mage anymore. Still, the DS Scholar or the NES Ranger can use white magic up to level 3 (and their attacks are way stronger than the Mage’s ones). Moreover, the Knight can cover allies in critical state when they are attacked physically. Since his armor is the best in the party, it can greatly reduce damage. Finally, the Thief should always steal instead of attack. Most of the items he can steal are potions, which can support the limited healing abilities of the other party members.
None of the Fire Crystal jobs can use Black Magic either, but the Knight can use two spellcasting swords: the Salamander sword, which casts Fire1, and the Ice sword, which casts Ice1. Additionally, the Ranger and the Scholar can use elemental weapons. Holy/fire/ice/bolt arrows are available for the Ranger. Likewise, fire/ice/bolt books are available for the Scholar. The Thief has no elemental abilities, but he’s the one that requires less AP to revert back to a Black Mage. All of this analysis will be useful against the next boss.
The Scholar should study the weak element of each enemy, and then all characters should change their weapons to match the element. To change weapons during battle, select the item menu, click the weapon you want to equip, then drag the cursor to the far left of the menu and click on either left or right hand.
Scholar studies[show]
Living Woods[edit]
You will meet some fairies there and a crater where the elder tree was. The fairies tell you that Wizard Hein from Castle Argus came and placed a curse on the elder tree and took him. The elder tree is transformed in a castle and wander the desert near Tokkul aimlessly. They also tell you something about Hein’s weakness. Now go back to the town of Tokkul.
Hein’s Castle[edit]
Most enemies are undead, i.e. weak against Holy and Fire, as the Scholar can confirm. Let the Ranger use his Holy Arrows freely, as this dungeon is the last one in the game with a large number of undead enemies. The Knight and the Scholar should equip fire weapons: the Salamand sword and two Books of Fire, respectively. Switch to any other arrows and sword when fighting against enemies that are not undead (access Item menu during battle). The Thief should always try to Steal instead of attack: in particular, steal arrows from the Demons and attack items from the Lamia’s.
•Castle dungeon: you start in the prison, together with the King of Argus and many other people. Talk to everyone, and one guy will give you a Luck Mallet. Then, walk through the wall on the left to access the next cell; in there, you can fight a Daemon, just to earn some Gil and experience. Back in the main cell, cast Mini on all the party and get through the mousehole.
•First floor: get back to your normal size. There is a chest with 20 Holy arrows in the southmost portion of this area. Walk into the wall on the left to the hidden stairway. The chest near there contains a Phoenix Down.
•Second floor: The three doors conceal two chests each, for a total of 6430 Gil, a Phoenix Down and a Zeus’ Rage. Walk around the block and enter the fourth door. The chest conceals the King’s sword: it has no elemental properties, but it is stronger than any sword you already have. Once again, walk into the wall on the left and find a secret passage with the stairs.
•Third floor: A chest on the right conceals a Phoenix Down. The stairs are on the left, but there’s no need to find any secret passage now.
•Fourth floor: Before you enter the door, look for the chest with the Rune bow first. Then, enter the door and face Hein, the boss.
Boss: Hyne/Hein[edit]
NES version
The Scholar should repeatedly Study the weakness of Hein. Then, open the Item menu and change the weapons of Scholar, Knight and Ranger to match Hein’s weakness. The Thief, instead, neither has elemental weapons nor he can steal much from a boss: let him use the offensive items he stole during the various battles.
The airship Enterprise[edit]
Talk to King Argus and get the Wheel of Time, then go to Canaan and talk to Cid. He will turn the Enterprise into an airship.
Before you leave the Floating Continent, visit the Village of the Ancients and buy as many arrows you can for your Ranger. Also, make sure you have the Sight spell.
The shipwreck[edit]
Head to the northeast corner of the map and you will find a ship wrecked on the shore of a small island. Head inside.
You will find two chests: one containing a Blood Sword, the other, a Zeus’ Wrath. Equip your new sword to the Knight. Although the Blood Sword is weaker than your Knight’s current two swords, the special ability (turning damage dealt into health points for the wielder) outweighs the loss in strength. In the DS version, the Blood Sword is now stronger rather than weaker.
Give the girl in the bed a Potion to heal her. You will find out she is the Priestess of Water, Aria (Elia in Japan). She will join your party to help you return the light to the crystal of water.
Temple of Water[edit]
Head south and you will find a large island. This is where the Temple of Water is located. Inside the temple there are two magic springs: one to heal and one to revive. Have Aria grab the crystal shard, then head to the Cave of Tides, located outside, just behind the temple.
Cave of Tides[edit]
Cave of Tides
The enemies here are weak against fire and lightning. Be sure to equip the appropriate weapons. Also, keep in mind that your party can only use physical attacks. It would be most efficient to let your Knight protect any allies in the critical state rather than heal them. And with the Blood Sword in hand, he’ll be an unstoppable shield.
There are neither chests nor hidden items in this dungeon. However, in the DS version, you can find a Blizzaga spell in a chest at the end of the path with the long staircase.
Boss: Kraken[edit]
NES version
As soon as you enter the room of the Crystal, prepare for the boss fight by healing your characters. Kraken has no weaknesses. However, in the DS version, he is weak against lightning.
Town of Amur[edit]
Go around town and start talking to the townspeople, you’ll learn about Goldor, and the bottomless bog. Since your ship has been locked you’ll need to search for Goldor. Unfortunately to cross the bottomless bog you need the Levigrass Shoes. You can find them in the sewers, but they’re locked. After talking to one of the townspeople, and later talking to Gill he will unlock the sewers.
Before going to the sewer’s, go north up the waterway to a garden there you will find four Gyshal Greens. From the garden go south then west then at the four way you’re gonna want to keep going west after passing under a bridge you’ll reach another four way go north up the water fall and you’ll find an island with trees on it zoom in and you’ll find the Black Cowl, the Black Garb, and the Thief Gloves three important pieces of equipment for the thief.
Go back to where the gate was unlocked go east, then south, at the three way keep going south then east into the tunnel, and it will take you to the sewers.
Sewers of Amur[edit]
Amur sewerThis section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.
Free weapons for the Thief can be found in two secret passages.
B1 Go south (it’s really the only direction you can go) then across the river there is literally nothing here so go down the stairs.
B2 Go all the way over to the west wall then down the platform pass the stairs go east and you’ll find a chest in it are the Cat Claws go back to the stars to the next floor.
B3 Follow the platform at the bridge you run into four old men in trouble you’ll get into a fight with four Gigan Toads. Keep going east, and you’ll find the stairs.
B4 This floor has a lot of loot follow the only path to a bridge east of the bridge is a tunnel in it are two chests one contains a Diamond Bell the other has a Hammer. Cross the bridge at a three way go west into the exit there you will find three chests there that contains Kaiser Knuckles, a Poison Dagger and Power Bracers. Equip the Poison Dagger. Back at the three way go north and follow the path to a set of stairs. Here you’ll meet Delilah and she’ll give you the Levigrass Shoes. The people who helped you out earlier will take you out of the sewers.
Goldor Manor[edit]
Goldor’s MansionThis section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.
From Armur go south (really south, south till you see a desert south!) go east then up and you’ll find Goldor’s Manor.
The Thief is necessary here to open the many locked doors.
Many enemies use debuff spells, i.e. confusion and paralysis. Unlike in the cave of Tides, you cannot rely too much on the Knight to protect the allies in critical state.
Main Room: In this room there are five doors, go to the one far in the back. Inside go around the 3rd corner and you’ll find 11 Golden Swords, (they suck don’t equip them), and Wyvern Claws. There are no more chests in this dungeon, so just go straight to Goldor. In the main room go to the top right door to go deeper into the dungeon.
Boss: Goldor[edit]
NES versionThis section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.
Goldor is extremely resistant to magic attacks thanks to his golden armor. If you are following the guide you should have primarily physical attackers. If Goldor uses protect on himself use study to dispel it. This fight should be easy if you keep these in mind.
Alternate strategy
Use mostly physical jobs and a White Mage for healing.
Saronia in war[edit]
World map. Click to enlarge.
After retrieving the airship from Goldor’s clutches you are free to search the world for the Earth Crystal. There are actually less destinations available that you might think.
You can visit a few places, but it’s too early now for shopping there: you’d better come back in the next chapter. Head straight to Saronia.
From Amur, where your ship was anchored, travel North along the coast, then keep following it westward. When you get to the westmost peninsula, cross the sea. You cannot land in Saronia, but if you fly over Saronia castle, they’ll get you down.
In the Castle, in NW Saronia and in NE Saronia there is nothing useful for now. In SW Saronia you can meet Prince Alus, who joins the party. Talk to two old men to get a free Dragoon Armor and Wind Spear: turn one of your characters into a Dragoon. In a house you can summon the Fat Chocobo for free as many times as you want; moreover, in the same house there is a secret passage that leads to 11 Gysahl greens.
People talk about the king, about the shadow of Garuda, about the fact that only Dragoons can defeat it: this is a clear hint for the next party.
In SE Saronia there’s the Dragoon Spire, your next stop.
The Dragoon Spire[edit]
Dragoons’ Spire
At the top of the Spire there is free full equipment for a party of four Dragoons: four Dragoon helms, three Dragoon armors (you already have one) and three Thunder spears (you already have a Wind one). Switch all your characters to Dragoons and head to the castle. Equip any shields and gloves you already own to the Dragoons (remember the free Fat Chocobo in town).
BOSS: Garuda[edit]
NES version
The only party that can defeat Garuda is made of four Dragoons, thanks to their defensive Jump ability. If all four Dragoons jump at the same time, Garuda will miss one or even two turns.
Saronia in peace[edit]
After defeating Garuda, prince Alus becomes King of Saronia, and he gives you the airship Nautilus as a parting gift.
In the room on the ground floor of the castle there is a secret passage in the wall opposite to the beds. In there you will find several useful items, weapons and armors for your water Crystal jobs. The shops of Saronia are now open and you can purchase some useful pieces of equipment: purchase a Light Rod, a White Robe and a Black Robe; anything else can be found for free soon.
Now it’s time to leave Saronia and to change your heroes jobs for a new party.
Before the dungeon[edit]
World map. Click to enlarge.
Let’s summarize the equipment found for free in the last few quests:
•full equipment for the Dragoon (two different spellcasting spears, armor, helm);
•full equipment for the Viking (spellcasting hammer, armor, helm);
•full equipment for the Geomancer (status-inflicting bell, armor, power bracers);
•some rare arrows for the Ranger.
The next dungeon is miniaturized, so physical attacks will be useless. Not only that, status-inflicting weapons (Earth bell, Medusa arrows) are uneffective, too. You definitely need as much magic as you can.
Keep one Dragoon equipped with spellcasting Wind & Thunder Spears but no shield, keep the Scholar (DS) or the Ranger (NES) for healing, get the Geomancer for his Terrain ability. Finally, head to Replito and purchase the five summon spells for the Evoker: even the Chocobo Escape will be useful in a miniaturized dungeon. For the rest, the Evoker equips the same rods and armor parts as the Black Mage.
Saronia in peace[edit]
This section is a stub. Help us expand it, and you get a cookie.
Before leaving Saronia onboard the Nautilus, purchase some equipment for the Evoker: one Light Rod for weapon, then both the Black robe and the White robe. These two robes improve the wearer’s intelligence or spirit, respectively, therefore they slightly unbalance the outcome of the Evoker’s Summons towards one end.
Items shaded in gray can be found for free, therefore there is no need to purchase them. There is a second magic shop in NW Saronia, but it just sells Lv.3 spells, that could already be purchased long ago, in Gysahl.

Replito[edit]
Hop onto the nautilus and head to Replito. This town is north-west of Saronia. If you want to level-up your characters a bit, you can land just north of Saronia and walk all they way to Replito in the north-west.
In Replito you can purchase five Summon spells for the Evoker. There are some free items hidden here and there.
Duster[edit]
South-East of Saronia is the island of Duster. In this town you can purchase two feather hats for the Geomancer and the Evoker. There are two Earthen Drums to be found in the grass. There is no need to purchase any other weapon or armor now: better ones will be found for free very soon. Later, you will come back here to purchase a Bard vest.
Doga’s manor[edit]
Fly south from Duster and get to the Dalg continent. On its south-west end is the entrance to the windy canyon that leads to Doga’s manor. In the manor you can buy Level 6 magic. From the manor the next dungeon can be accessed.
Cave of the Magic Circle[edit]
A miniaturized dungeon, that is the Warriors of Light must be miniaturized to navigate it.
Enter, explore one floor to find the shortest route through it, then exit, rest and re-enter to explore deeper. Some enemies are weak against Wind, so the Dragoon’s wind spear will be useful. Luckily, there is no boss at the end. The Magic Circle at the end allows to enchant the airship Nautilus for underwater travel.
Exploring the sea bottom[edit]
All these areas can only be accessed from underwater. They are optional, but lots of very useful items can be found in them.
Doga’s village[edit]
Optional area. You can buy Level 7 magic spells here. Access from underwater on the east side of Dorga’s continent.
Sunken Cave[edit]
Sunken Cave
Optional underwater dungeon. It is located under an island east of Goldor’s manor. It contains several useful pieces of equipment, including strong weapons for the Dragoon and the Viking.
•Level 2: •Dual tomahawk
•Defender sword (NES), Chackram (DS)
•Diamond shield (NES), Tiger claws (DS)
•Level 3: •Loki harp

•Reflect armor; guarded by Death Claw
Saronia Catacombs[edit]
Saronia catacombs
Optional underwater dungeon. It is located, quite predictably, in the sea near Saronia. Defeat the boss, Odin, to obtain a Summon spell.
•Level 3: •Golem staff
•Diamond bell (NES), Rune bell (DS)
•Gaea robe (NES), Heavy lance (DS)
•Aegis shield
•Reflect armor
•Level 4, secret room: •4 Elixirs, each guarded by a Ouroboros
•4 Phoenix Downs, each guarded by a Cenchos
BOSS: Odin[edit]
NES version•Steal from Odin: potion (NES), Gungnir lance (DS)
•Defeat Odin: win Odin Summon
Temple of Time[edit]
Temple of Time
Underwater dungeon. It is located south-west of Saronia. There are many locked doors and also a good knife for the Thief, so you may consider temporarily switching one character to this class; you should explore the optional #Sunken Cave before the Temple of Time, in order to collect further weapons for the Thief and the Dragoon.
The Temple of Time conceals the Magic Lute necessary to wake up Unei. There’s no boss at the end.
Unei’s Shrine[edit]
World map. Click to enlarge.
You can walk here from Saronia: walking is good for gaining further experience.
Use Noah’s lute (found in the underwater Temple of Time) to wake up Unei, who joins the Warriors of Light.
Ancient Ruins[edit]
Ancient Ruins
You can walk here from Saronia: walking is good for gaining further experience. If there’s a Geomancer in your party, you’d better take a detour to the west coast and avoid the rivers as long as possible.
Unei can remove the rocks that block the entrance to the lower levels. At the bottom, the legendary airship Invincible can be found. It allows to access all the subsequent areas in this page.
Falgabard[edit]
NES version
Falgabard is the town of the Dark Knights, therefore let’s give a look to all the Dark Knight equipment, not only to what is available here.
In Falgabard you can find full equipment for one Dark Knight for free: a Demon shield, a Demon armor and a Kiku-Ichimonji Dark Blade. To obtain such Kiku Blade you have to defeat an old Shinobi who lives under the waterfall.
To access the cave under the waterfall, walk through the trees on the left of the waterfall. When you leave the waterfall cave, follow the river down to the pond. On the islet, search its four corners to find four items (Demon armor, Demon shield and two Hi-Potions).

Falgabard Cave[edit]
Falgabard cave
Optional dungeon. Access from the town of Falgabard. Some chests can be found in it, but they contain nothing essential (see tables above). The value of this area is training the Warriors of Light in fighting splitting enemies and finding invisible passages.
The Dark/Mystic Knight can act independently, but the other three party members should use a formation. Take advantage of the fact that enemies don’t split if attacked by magic, neither do sleeping or paralysed enemies.
Here’s an example of an effective formation:
1.The Evoker should stun the enemies by summoning Shiva (sleep) or Ramuh (paralysis); •in this turn, the Bard can sing (NES: cheer) for the allies and the Viking can cast Thunder2 from Thor’s hammer.
2.Now the Viking can physically attack a stunned enemy; •in this turn, the Bard can keep singing (NES: cheer) for the allies and the Evoker can summon a different creature.
3.Then, the Bard can put back to sleep the awakened enemy using the Dream Harp, while the Viking attacks another stunned enemy.
Lake Dohr[edit]
Map of the floating continent. Click to enlarge.
NES version
Optional dungeon. Access using the airship Invincible near the Living Woods. Enemies’ strength is scaled to be between Doga’s Grotto and the Ancients’ Maze.
Enemies are very strong, so the disabling abilities of the Evoker and the Bard will be necessary; moreover, most enemies are weak against Lightning element, therefore the Viking will be very useful too. Defeat Leviathan to obtain a Summon spell.
Bahamut’s Lair[edit]
Bahamut’s lair
NES version
Optional dungeon. Access using the airship Invincible near Tozus. Enemies’ strength is scaled to be between Doga’s Grotto and the Ancients’ Maze.
Enemies are just slightly stronger than in Lake Dohr, but your team is more experienced now; on the other hand, enemies aren’t weak against lightning anymore. Defeat Bahamut to obtain a Summon spell.
Cave of Shadows

It conceals the Earth Fang, necessary to access the areas in the next two chapters. It is guarded by a boss, Hecatoncheir.

BOSS: Unei[edit]
NES version
After you defeat both Doga and Unei, talk to them and they will give you the keys to access the forbidden land Eureka and the upper floors of the Crystal Tower. Go back in Doga’s Manor and search the bookshelves for a Hi-Potion.
BOSS: Titan[edit]
NES version
Yes, in this dungeon you start with the boss.
Earth Crystal jobs[edit]
Suggested team for this chapter:
•Black Belt
•Devout
•Magus
•Summoner
In order to write a unified walkthrough for both NES version and remakes, the NES player had to wait until now before using the Black Belt job, while the DS player will wait until the bottom of Eureka before using the Ninja and Sage jobs.
The Ancients’ Maze
Forbidden Land Eureka[edit]
Forbidden Land Eureka
A good strategy is to get quickly to the 8th level of Eureka ignoring the magic weapons. Down there you can heal and purchase Level 8 magic. On the 7th level you can battle Scylla for the best staff (in the NES version she also unlocks the Sage and Ninja jobs) and the Guardian for a featureless sword. Switch the Magus to Sage and the Summoner to Ninja, heal again and walk your way up collecting the other weapons: two more featureless swords and the Moonring Blade, probably the best weapon for the Ninja.
BOSS: Scylla & Co.[edit]
B7, Scylla (keeper of Eldest staff)
B7, Guardian (keeper of Ragnarok sword)
B6, General (keeper of Excalibur sword)
B5, Kunoichi (keeper of Masamune’s dark blade)
B4, Amon (keeper of Moonring boomerang)
The ??? Dungeon (DS)[edit]
Onion Knight equipment (DS)[edit]
The Crystal Tower[edit]
Onion Knight equipment (NES)[edit]
The Crystal Tower is where you can find the Onion Equipment. All the five parts are dropped by Dragons.
In the NES version, dragons appear four times every 256 battles.
•The first dragon appears after about 128 battles. If you already got the treasures of Eureka, that means: leave the Invincible, cross the Ancients’ Maze, walk to the bottom of Eureka, then to the 7th floor of the Sylx Tower, back down to the 2nd floor and start climbing up again.
•The second dragon appears after about 64 more battles, that is another visit to Eureka (buy tens of Shurikens) and back to the Sylx Tower.
•The third and fourth dragon appear after about 10 more battles each.
•Forty more battles and the cycle starts over, that is you need about 40+130 (=170) more battles to meet another dragon. Better go back to the Invincible, save game and reset the NES.
The dragons drop an Onion part only if they are hit by an instant-defeat spell. There are mainly six:
•Black: Breakga, Death and Warp;
•White: Mini, Toad and Exit;
•Summon: Evoker’s Bahamut and Summoner’s Odin, but they have a higher chance to miss;
•petrifying hits from Omnirod and Golem staff count as well.
You should better defeat the dragons on the second turn, or maybe a later one, for a better chance to get an Onion equipment part.
The Dragons always drop an item when defeated. The Thief can steal the Elixir from them. Still, there is an open question:
if the Thief steals the Elixir from a dragon, does the chance of winning an Onion part get a boost?
According to the analysis by Sir Bahamut, this is where each dragon can be met:

Free the four Warriors of Darkness[edit]
World of Darkness
Against the Xande Clones and the other bosses use Ninja’s shurikens and Sage’s Bahamut, but also let the Devout cast Haste on the Onion Knight. The enemies should go down in two turns.
Xande Clones[edit]
Earth Crystal: Ahriman[edit]
Water Crystal: Echidna[edit]
Air Crystal: Cerberus[edit]
Fire Crystal: Two-Headed Dragon[edit]
Final boss: Cloud of Darkness[edit]
The final boss is quite stronger: after the Devout cast Haste on the Onion Knight, make him cast Cure4 on everyone at every turn
